XO MAN

XO Man is a solo artist who I've been planning to do a video for since May this year. He has recently won the Hugo Urban Rules comp which gives him 6 months of free PR. He is financing this off of his own back. XO is currently unsigned but I don’t imagine this will be for long. He’s linked to and known by most UK hiphop people. His sound is hard to characterise which makes him much more unique. He mixes live band music with electronic sounds and his lyrics a closer to angsty spoken word than rapping per se.

KINNY - "Enough Said"

Kinny is Canadian born but now lives in Norway with her husband. This is her first solo album and is flying all the way from Norway to appear in this video. Her label is Tru Thoughts a Brighton based Nu Jazz Label. The video will be a complicated post production affair built mostly in After Effects. The aim is to create a video that looks like Hockney-esq cubist artwork, a sort of montage of videos all on one screen.

"Enough Said"

This is the first single from her new album which will be out in early 2009. The album is described by her record label, Tru Thoughts, as "an original, up-to-the-minute brand of modern soul that mixes irresistible beats, incredible melodies and a pop sensibility with her own unmistakable force of personality and raw talent.

We were commissioned to create a music video for Korean artist, Kinzli, for her latest track Casey and Me.

Kinzli Coffman’s music is open and honest and reflects her diverse background. Having spent her early years in various orphanages in South Korea, she was adopted by an American family at the age of 8 and had to adjust to an unfamiliar Western lifestyle. She wrote her first song, ’Hume-Fogg Alma Mater’, at 16 and later performed it on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. At this time she was exposed to an array of Southern music such as country, gospel, jazz, folk and bluegrass.

Kinzli first came to the UK in 2001 on holiday, but fell in love with Europe and moved to London. This proved the inspiration for her debut album, Going just to be going, recorded with producer Peter Michaels (SONY, BBC, National Geographic) and engineers Ray Staff (Corinne Bailey Rae, The Beautiful South) and Martin Giles (Depeche Mode, Cardigans) The album has been released on her own Indie label, Polkadot Records.

'Casey and Me' shows a harder edge to Kinzli's sound, with solid harmonies and great guitar. This is one of my favourite tracks on the album. It contains guts and power and is a sparkling performance.
